Course Description:

This course is designed to provide carers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to support individuals living with colitis. Carers will gain a comprehensive understanding of colitis, including its causes, types, and unique characteristics.

Topics include:

  • Explore the different types of colitis (e.g. ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s colitis) and the associated risk factors.
  • Learn about potential complications of colitis, including how they may impact overall health and quality of life.
  • Review various treatment and management strategies, including lifestyle adaptations, dietary considerations, and managing flare-ups.
  • Understand potential triggers for clients and learn strategies to help them avoid these triggers effectively.
  • Learn about emergency medications, their purpose, and whether they may be necessary for client care.
  • Explore the practical support that clients with colitis may require in their daily lives.
  • Recognise the importance of providing emotional support as part of a carer’s role, ensuring holistic care for clients.
  • Develop person-centred care approaches that prioritise client dignity, independence, and well-being.
