Course Aims
This course is designed to give health and social care workers the underpinning knowledge and understanding for Accessible Information, and their responsibilities relating to this.
It is suitable for managers and workers in health and social care organisations. Associated courses are ‘Recording Information’ and if you are a manager, senior or supervise staff then you are advised to also complete the ‘Information Governance’ course which describes in more detail your recording obligations.
The course begins by explaining what Accessible Information is and how it relates to legislation and regulation. This module defines the Accessible Information Standard and the partners involved in its development.
Module 2 shows examples of best practice for communicating and identifies the steps in order to establish and record a person’s communication preference. This includes 5 key words to assist you to do this: Identify needs, Record needs, Flag needs, Share information and Meet needs.
The final stage of the course provides information on different communication methods. This will inform your learning with regards to the options available for people with disabilities and ultimately the people you support. Examples include Braille, Makaton, British Sign Language and Tadoma, how they function and who they might benefit.
Course duration: up to approx. 1 hour, dependent on learner’s skills and abilities.

Courses are delivered online and work on any internet enabled device. As long as you have access to an internet connection you can complete courses when and where you like 24 hours a day.

How long do courses take to complete?
