Course Description:

This Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness training course is designed for carers, healthcare professionals, and support staff to develop a comprehensive understanding of MS. The course provides insight into the causes, types, symptoms, and progression of the condition, as well as practical strategies to support individuals living with MS and their families.

Learners will gain an understanding of the physical, emotional, and social challenges associated with MS and explore approaches to care that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life. The course also highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to managing MS and supporting carers.

Topics include:

  • Understand what Multiple Sclerosis is, including its causes, types (relapsing-remitting, primary progressive, secondary progressive), and progression.
  • Recognise the symptoms of MS and how they affect individuals’ mobility, communication, and daily living.
  • Learn practical strategies to provide physical and emotional support for individuals with MS.
  • Understand the importance of person-centred care that respects the individual’s dignity and preferences.
  • Gain insight into the role of assistive devices and technology in supporting independence and mobility.
  • Recognise the emotional and social impact of MS on individuals and their families and how to provide effective support.
  • Understand the role of a multidisciplinary team in managing MS care effectively.
  • Identify when to escalate concerns or seek specialist support.
