Where we have already carried out a recent Moving and Handling Risk Assessment and Personalised Plan with a disabled individual that is employing a specific Carer who is pregnant, breast-feeding or who has given birth within the last 6 months, we are then able to advise and where necessary, carry out a Pregnant Workers and New Mothers Risk Assessment.
A Pregnant Worker and New Mother’s Risk Assessment Includes:

A conversation with the pregnant worker or new mother, to identify any medical recommendations that they have been given, their previous pregnancy history and how they feel about undertaking each manual handling task that the disabled individual needs.

A discussion between the pregnant worker or new mother and the Assessor, to identify areas of concern and ways of managing the risks.

Discussion with the employer about the outcome of the assessment (whilst maintaining the confidentiality of the pregnant worker or new mother as requested). If the risks cannot be managed, then the law requires that the pregnant worker or new mother’s working conditions or hours should be adjusted, and if that is not possible, then they should be given suitable alternative work or suspended on paid leave.

Upon completion of the risk assessment, the pregnant worker or new mother will be provided with a copy of the assessment. The employer will also receive a copy, with any personal information that the worker feels is confidential, removed.

What Happens Next?
A Pregnant Workers and New Mothers Moving and Handling Risk Assessment can only be carried out after a Moving and Handling Risk Assessment and Personalised Plan has been completed. After a Pregnant Workers and New Mothers Moving and Handling Risk Assessment has been completed, this can be used as part of the bespoke Moving and Handling People Training.
