Course Description:

This Asthma Awareness training course provides carers, healthcare professionals, and support staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand and manage asthma effectively. The course focuses on recognising asthma symptoms, understanding triggers, and ensuring the correct management and response during asthma-related incidents.

Learners will gain an understanding of how asthma affects the respiratory system, including the causes and risk factors associated with the condition. The training will explore effective management strategies, including the correct use of inhalers and peak flow meters, as well as recognising and responding to asthma attacks.

Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical demonstrations, participants will leave confident in their ability to support individuals with asthma and respond appropriately in emergency situations.

Topics include:

  • What asthma is, including how it affects the respiratory system and its impact on daily life
  • The causes, common symptoms, and risk factors of asthma
  • How to identify asthma triggers and implement strategies to minimise exposure
  • The correct use of asthma medications, including reliever and preventer inhalers, and peak flow meters, Nebulisers and oral medication
  • How to recognise the signs of an asthma attack and respond effectively
  • Emergency procedures and appropriate actions to take during an asthma attack
