Course Description:

This HR and Effective Employer training course is designed for both new and experienced employers of carers and personal care assistants. The course provides essential knowledge and practical skills to help employers understand their responsibilities, confidently attract and retain staff, and effectively manage their employees. It is also suitable for team leaders who have been delegated managerial responsibilities.

The training is divided into six comprehensive modules covering the key aspects of attracting, recruiting, onboarding, and retaining employees, as well as managing performance, resolving conflicts, and navigating disciplinary and grievance procedures.

Module 1: Attraction
  • Strategies to attract the best candidates
  • How to position yourself as an employer of choice
  • The role of effective communication in management
Module 2: Recruitment
  • Writing compelling job advertisements and selecting appropriate platforms
  • Shortlisting candidates, conducting interviews, and offering roles
  • Ensuring proper reference checks and compliance with relevant checks
Module 3: Onboarding
  • Conducting effective inductions for new employees
  • Providing continual feedback, reassurance, and recognition to build confidence
Module 4: Effective ‘One-to-Ones’ / Employee Development
  • Conducting meaningful one-to-one meetings and setting performance expectations
  • Managing difficult conversations and resolving conflicts
  • Using basic coaching techniques to support employee development
Module 5: Disciplinary and Grievance
  • Conducting investigations and understanding the stages of informal and formal warnings
  • Handling dismissals appropriately and avoiding common pitfalls
  • Understanding discrimination, protected characteristics, and the tribunal process
Module 6: Retention
  • Identifying what ‘good’ looks like in employee motivation and engagement
